Doe v. Kamehameha Schools (11/05/2004)
The Kamehameha Schools is being sued by an applicant to the Schools (Doe) claiming that he was denied admission based on his race, and that this constitutes racial discrimination.
Arakaki v. Lingle (formerly Arakaki v. Cayetano) (11/02/2004)
U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway dismissed on Jan. 15, 2004 a lawsuit filed by about a dozen non-Hawaiian plaintiffs who challenged the constitutionality of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands programs.
The Akaka Bill
The primary impediment to the passage of the Akaka Bill was a hold placed by Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona that prevented the bill from coming up for a vote in the Senate.
